THE FUTURE OF ANITMICROBIAL USE IN THE BEEF INDUSTRY
John VanOrman, Meyer Natural
Angus
Good animal husbandry, properly
applied is the only way to reduce the use of antibiotics. Treating the animal
well reduces the need for corrective medicine. In my opinion the complete
removal of all antibiotics from the feeding industry is not a viable economic
option.
We will be looking at the necessity
of Antibiotics in the feeding industry, as well as the effects of such use on
the quality of the end product, consumer’s immune systems, and the environment.
Defining the most common types of antibiotics, how they are administered, and
what their uses are, as well as the abuses of such antibiotics and how they can
do more harm than good.
In conclusion, the reduction of
Antibiotic use is one step at a time, doing things right not only for the
cattle, but for consumers as well.
