Mark your calendar now for July 24-28th, 2005! Cincinnati, Ohio will be the site of the 2005 SAD Meeting during the Joint Annual Meetings of the American Dairy Science Association, the American Society of Animal Science and the Canadian Society of Animal Science. Included in this mailing are instructions for electronic submission of abstracts. Deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. CST, February 2, 2005.

Carefully review the instructions for submitting an abstract. All abstracts, including undergraduate student abstracts, are due February 2, 2005 and must be submitted online from the Annual Meeting web site at http://www.fass.org/2005/. If you have any questions regarding the submission of the abstract (coding, etc.), contact ADSA-SAD Headquarters at adsa@assochq.org.

The ADSA Student Affiliate Division (ADSA-SAD) Program will begin on Saturday, July 23 with a tour and student mixer, and continue thru Tuesday afternoon, July 26. In addition to the scientific programs and competitions, several social events are being planned including student mixers, a night at Red’s stadium (if the team is in town), a club shirt exchange, and much, much more.

Also, don’t forget to make your Cincinnati hotel reservations TODAY! Year after year, we comment that it would be more fun if all the clubs were staying at the same hotel. This year, the Student Headquarter Hotel is the Hilton Netherland Hotel. However, it is up our clubs to make our reservations early to ensure we all get rooms at this property. This is also the headquarter hotel for ADSA, so rooms will go quickly! Use the enclosed housing form to make your meeting reservations or go online to http://www.fass.org/2005/housing.asp

On the web site you will find the housing form and a link to the online housing reservation system. The hotel is very close to other hotels and the convention center, as well as many restaurants and nightclubs.

Networking: The 2005 meeting will be a joint meeting of American Society of Animal Science, the Canadian Society of Animal Science and the American Dairy Science Association. It serves as an international forum to gather vital information for the future of animal agriculture and will attract over 3,000 scientists/researchers with diverse and common interests from around the globe. Interests include food science, dairy production, animal and human nutrition, livestock transport, food safety, transgenics and cloning, production and management, and web-based information programs. A wide array of poster presentations, exhibits, and symposia will be sure to motivate the world’s leading animal, dairy, poultry, and food scientists.

Cincinnati: Centrally located in the Midwest, you can’t beat it for convenience. Cincinnati boasts groundbreaking new attractions in 2004, with the new Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame & Museum (open September), National Underground Freedom Center (open August), the expanded Taft Museum of Art (open May), Petra: Lost City of Stone at the Cincinnati Art Museum (Sept. 14-Jan. 30), and many exciting new exhibits at their popular attractions.

After taking all of these exciting attractions, explore Mt. Adams for several delightful dining and entertainment options, not to mention a fantastic view of the Ohio River and downtown Cincinnati. Or head across the river to Newport on the Levee, an exciting dining and entertainment complex on the banks of the Ohio River. Word is the Cincinnati Reds are in town the weekend we are there, so we’ll try to get a student block at the game. More to come on that…

Best of all, it’s FREE and FUN!!  That’s right, free. Undergraduate students who are members of ADSA or ASAS will receive FREE registration, while others will pay hundreds to register. Be sure you have renewed your membership for the coming year so you qualify for the free registration. Also, a good time is virtually guaranteed with other Student Affiliate members. Meet fellow dairy enthusiasts from around the country, from California to Virginia, and Louisiana to Minnesota. Get to know other college students in a variety of settings, including; competitions, tours and social gatherings.

What better reasons do you need? Have a great rest of the semester, and make plans now for Cincinnati!
