1.
One
team per academic institution.
2.
Each
member will consist of 4 members, with one member designated to be the team
captain.
3.
Teams
will participate in a seeding contest prior to the competition.
4.
The
contest is a single elimination competition.
5.
Each
round will consist of 5 team questions and 15 toss-up questions to be answered
by individual team members, without consultation among team members.
a)
For
team questions, answers must be given by the team captain, starting within 20
seconds of the complete reading of the question. Team members may confer on all team answers and partial credit
may be given at the discretion of the judges.
b)
Individual
contestants must answer toss-up questions within 10 seconds, after being
acknowledged by the moderator. No
partial credit is to be given; the answer must be completely acceptable or it
is ruled incorrect, without explanation by the judges at that time.
c)
Should
a contestant ring the buzzer and provide an answer to the question before being
acknowledged by the moderator, there will be a loss of 1 point for that team.
6.
The
judges will consider only the first answer given by the contestant after being
acknowledged. If there are multiple answers to a team question, consideration
will be given only to the specified number of answers, in order, as given by
the team captain.
7.
Each
correct answer will result in 4 points for a team; an incorrect answer will
result in a deduction of 1 point.
8.
If
an incorrect answer is given to a toss-up question, the moderator will re-read
the question for members of the opposing team, allowing them an opportunity to
buzz and answer, without consultation among team members.
9.
When
a contestant rings the buzzer while a question is in progress, the moderator will
stop to acknowledge that contestant and the answer must be given as outlined
above.
10.
There
is no penalty for answering a question before the moderator has completely read
it.
11.
In
the event that three different team members give correct answers to toss-up
questions, that team will be awarded a bonus question.
12.
A
bonus question is worth 4 points. Team
members will be allowed to confer with each other, but must begin their answer
within 20 seconds after the question is read.
13.
Scoring
for bonus questions is at the discretion of the judges and partial credit may
be given, depending on the number of acceptable answers or proportion of the
answer that is correct.
14.
In
the event of a disputed answer, the judges’ decision shall be final.
15.
Teams
will be congregated in a holding area while they are waiting for their next
match to commence.
16.
A
runner will retrieve every team when the rooms are ready for the team to
compete.
17.
The
winning team of each match is required to return to the holding area; the
losing team may stay or leave, as it wishes.
18.
The
tournament matches will continue until a winner is named. The winning team will receive the Dairy Quiz
Bowl traveling trophy. All
participating teams will share the prize money funded by the ADSA Foundation.
