Nominations and Elections of Officers

First Business Meeting:
Each club will introduce their officer candidate during roll call when their club name is announced. At the end of roll call, the chair will ask clubs that didn’t nominate anyone if they would like to do so at this time. In the unlikely event that there are still less than six candidates, the chair would open up nominations and clubs would have an opportunity to nominate a second person from their club. All officer nominations would then be closed. Nominations would then be open for first year advisor. All nominees would hand in officer application forms by the end of the meeting.

Second Business Meeting:
All candidates give a speech immediately before the elections at the second Business Meeting.  Contents of the speech should include the following: name, school, the year of graduation, experience and applicable qualifications and why they want to serve as an ADSA SAD officer. Each candidate will then answer a question from the current officer. The current officer will ask the same question to each candidate.

Preprinted ballots will be handed out to the delegates. Each chapter will receive two ballots, unless there is only one delegate attending the meeting, in which case they have one vote.

The delegates must rank the nominees from top to bottom, by assigning the highest number to the president and then second highest to VP, etc. For example, if there are 8 nominees, the choice for president would receive a 8; a 7 for 1st VP, etc

Counting the Ballots:
The candidate with the most points is the President; 2nd most is 1st VP, et. If a nominee with the most votes indicated on the officer application that they did not wish to have that office, they move down to the next office. If there is a tie (for example, “John Doe” and “Mary White” both have 48 total points) the tie should be broken by reexamining the ballots or results and tally the number of ballots on which one or the other was preferred. “John” and “Mary” may both have 48 points but 9 ballots may have “John” over “Mary” while only 8 ballots have “Mary” over “John”. In this case “John” would be declared the winner. In the event, the candidates are still tied, the delegates will be asked to revote between those two candidates (no mention is made as far as which office this is for).

The ballots will need to be counted prior to the end of the business meeting in the unlikely event that an office does not become filled. For example, it could be possible that all candidates after the four with the most votes had indicated that they did not wish to be Secretary-Treasurer. Nominations would have to be reopened for that office and voted on.

Announcing the Results:
The results of the elections would be announced at the award banquet, starting with the advisor and ending with the new President.

Each chapter has one vote allocated per delegate, with a maximum of two votes total. Any person running for President should be prepared to stay for the ADSA Board of Directors meeting.
