About the ADSA Foundation

The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) Foundation was established in 1990 by a vote of the ADSA membership to advance the long-term interests of the dairy science sector. A governing committee—comprising representatives from both the Production and Foods Divisions and inclusive of all levels of membership—oversees the Foundation's activities and ensures that the Foundation remains steadfast to its mission.

As the Foundation continues to grow, it remains committed to expanding its impact through the development and implementation of new programs that reflect and reinforce its core mission.

ADSA Foundation Mission

The ADSA Foundation's overall purpose is to support strategic programs and initiatives that foster the professional development of students and early-career professionals, while promoting the exchange of knowledge among students, academics, and industry leaders. These efforts aim to inspire a lifelong commitment to ADSA, to the dairy industry and to the advancement of dairy science, which remains an essential pursuit for ensuring innovation, sustainability, and progress across the sector. In pursuit of these goals, the Foundation serves as an incubator for new and innovative professional development opportunities that address the evolving needs of the dairy community.

By engaging individuals at all career stages—both nationally and internationally—the Foundation enhances alliance across the production and food sectors. Support of signature programs, including those hosted by the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Divisions as well as targeted initiatives, serve as key platforms for recognizing excellence and encouraging continued collaboration in the dairy sciences.

Each year, the Foundation identifies and supports high-impact initiatives—such as, but not limited to awards, workshops, and symposia—that align with its mission to promote innovation, professional development, knowledge sharing, and sustained engagement in the global dairy community.

FOUNDATION SUPPORT

The programs supported by the ADSA Foundation are made possible through proceeds from ADSA's financial investments and generous contributions from both individuals and corporate partners in the dairy sector. These valued supporters fund a variety of initiatives, including named awards, educational and career development programs (graduate and undergraduate), symposia, and other events that are aligned with the Foundation's mission.

The Foundation actively welcomes ideas for new programs and encourages individuals or organizations to consider contributing to existing initiatives or proposing new ones. Tax deductible donations or support for programs are accepted year-round. For more information about the Foundation or to discuss potential funding opportunities, please contact mariac@assochq.com.

ADSA Planned Giving

In the late spring of 2010 the ADSA Foundation launched the ADSA Annual Fund campaign, creating eight giving opportunities (funds). To further strengthen and develop these funds, the ADSA Foundation then created a Planned Giving Program.

ADSA has made an important difference in the lives and careers of many members. We hope that members will pay it backwards to those dairy scientists who follow by considering a planned gift to the ADSA Foundation. In uncertain times, there are a number of ways to make such a gift, be it a set dollar amount, or a percentage of one's estate. A planned gift at any level would be accepted with much graditute and appreciation! And it is as easy as amending your will with simple bequest language that is revocable at any time.

All those making a planned gift will be listed at the time the commitment is made and in the appropriate spring or fall issue of ADSA News. At your option, at the time the planned gift is transferred to ADSA, the membership will be solicited so that friends, students, colleagues, families, and supporters could make in memorium gifts to the Foundation to further your contribution.
