Earn Rewards: Join the ADSA Loyalty Program

Giving back to our community of authors and reviewers, one reward at a time

At ADSA, we recognize the invaluable contributions of authors and reviewers to the Journal of Dairy Science (JDS) and JDS Communications (JDSC). We're thrilled to re-introduce the ADSA Loyalty Rewards Program, effective January 1, 2024, to give back to our thriving journal community, lower the barriers to academic publishing, and provide tangible benefits to the authors and reviewers that make our journals a stable pillar of the dairy sector and dairy’s scientific community.

How to Join: Getting Started

Authors and reviewers can enroll in the loyalty program starting January 1, 2024, by:

Step 1: Becoming a Professional ADSA member (Already an ADSA member? Skip to step 2!)
As member of ADSA, you join the top minds in dairy science—from dairy production to dairy foods—working together to share knowledge, advocate for science, and support innovation and discovery. Membership is $110 and grants you significant discounts toward all ADSA meetings and discounts toward article publishing charges (in addition to loyalty program discounts)—more than $1,900 for the Journal of Dairy Science and more than $500 for JDS Communications—that help you to start saving right away.

Step 2: Enrolling in the loyalty program with your ORCID on or after January 1, 2024
As an ADSA member, you now have access to a membership dashboard where you can enroll in the program starting January 1, 2024, by adding your ORCID number, which is how we track your points across the program. Enroll by navigating to “My Benefits” and then “ADSA Loyalty Program” in your membership dashboard and add your ORCID to your profile.

Add your ORCID

Step 3: Link your ORCID to ScholarOne/Manuscript Central (Is your ORCID already linked in ScholarOne/Manuscript Central? Skip to step 4!)
Be sure to link your ORCID to your ScholarOne/Manuscript Central profile via these steps so we can track your work as an author and a reviewer.

Step 4: Start earning points!
As an ADSA member, with your ORCID linked to your membership profile and your ScholarOne/Manuscript Central profile, you are now fully enrolled in the loyalty program and will immediately start earning points starting January 1, 2024!

Don’t have an ORCID or not sure what it is?

ORCID is a free service that acts as a centralized public record of your academic contributions across disciplines. Signup is easy—it takes less than one minute—and will help you to gain recognition for your activities as an author and a reviewer, and helps us track your rewards points. Register here and check out the extensive ORCID support pages for any questions that arise along the way.

Do you have more than one ORCID and want to consolidate?

Follow these simple steps to remove a duplicated ORCID record, and then be sure to add your correct, singular ORCID on ScholarOne/Manuscript Central and in your membership dashboard.

How it Works: Your Path to Rewards

Earning points is as simple as engaging with our journals. Whether you're drafting articles or providing timely reviews, every contribution counts. Here's how it works:

Earning Points:

Active professional ADSA members who’ve enrolled with their ORCID will accrue points for being the corresponding author on any publication in the Journal of Dairy Science or JDS Communications and/or through providing on-time reviews for either journal:

  • 40 points for authoring a publication as the corresponding author.
  • 10 points for each on-time review.

Redeeming Points:

As you accumulate points, you'll unlock significant article publishing charge (APC) discounts—in addition to the discounts you receive as an ADSA professional member—which can be redeemed upon acceptance of your article for articles you publish in either the Journal of Dairy Science or JDS Communications.

Points

Reward

400 points

100% waived APC in either journal (free publication)

200 points

50% waived APC in either journal (publishing fees are 50% off)

100 points

25% waived APC in either journal (publishing fees are 25% off)

Please note that points accrue on a rolling basis, and expire on a rolling basis four years after they are awarded—and you’ll receive alerts as your points approach expiration. Neither points nor rewards are transferable.

How to redeem points once your JDS article has been accepted

ADSA loyalty points should be redeemed upon acceptance of your article.

  1. Once you’ve received your acceptance, simply head to your loyalty points dashboard and click “redeem points.”

  2. Complete your points redemption by:
    1. Indicating the points are being applied to a Journal of Dairy Science article, and
    2. Select the type of reward you’re opting for—whether 25%, 50%, or 100% off your paper charge depending on how many points you have, or would like to use in your points balance, and
    3. Add the paper details including paper ID #, title, and your name as the corresponding author.
    4. Once submitted, you’ll receive your unique discount code that can be applied to your invoice—it will populate on the screen, be added to your loyalty transcript in your member dashboard, and be sent to you via email.

  3. Save your discount code and apply it to your Elsevier invoice via the “discount code” field. Lost track of your discount code? No problem! Your discount code will always be available to you via the transcript in your member dashboard

ADSA Loyalty Program Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ADSA Loyalty Program?

The ADSA Loyalty Program is a program designed to reward member contributors to ADSA’s ecosystem of journals, the Journal of Dairy Science (JDS) and JDS Communications (JDSC). The reward is the opportunity to publish original articles at no charge or at a reduced charge. Points are earned by either contributing papers as a corresponding author or reviewing articles for JDS or JDSC.

When does it start?

The program will be enacted January 1, 2024.

How does it work?

Authors and reviewers accrue points by contributing to either the Journal of Dairy Science or JDS Communications. Authors can earn 40 points for every accepted article they submit as the corresponding author, while reviewers can earn 10 points for every review they submit on time.

What are the rewards?

Points can be redeemed as follows:

Points

Reward

400 points

100% waived APC in either journal (free publication)

200 points

50% waived APC in either journal (publishing fees are 50% off)

100 points

25% waived APC in either journal (publishing fees are 25% off)

Who is eligible?

Corresponding authors and reviewers with a current ADSA membership and a valid ORCID that is linked both to their ScholarOne/Manuscript Central and ADSA membership profiles. For help linking an ORCID to ScholarOne/Manuscript Central or your ADSA membership profile, please contact loyalty@adsa.org.

Do I need to be a member of ADSA to participate?

All current members of ADSA who have an ORCID number are eligible to earn points for this program. Researchers must be current ADSA members to accrue and redeem points.

Do I need an ORCID to participate?

Yes, the ORCIDs act as a unique identifier, so we can track member points for both authors and reviewers. Members will need to provide their ORCID in ScholarOne/Manuscript Central when submitting an article or review, and their ORCID must also be linked to their member profile. Check to see if your ORCID is associated with your member profile in your ADSA membership dashboard starting January 1, 2024.

How can I track the points I’ve earned?

Participant points accruals and expirations are updated quarterly, and the first batch of points will be posted April 1, 2024. You can track your points through your member dashboard, by navigating to “My Benefits” and then “ADSA Loyalty Program.”

How do I redeem my points?

Once an article you have written as corresponding author is accepted, you can redeem your points through your loyalty points dashboard.

Is the process to redeem points the same for JDS and JDSC?

At this time, the process for JDS and JDSC redemption are slightly different, because Elsevier handles the invoicing for JDS, while the JDSC invoicing is conducted by the association. For both journals, you will be prompted to enter the details of your accepted “reward article” (including paper ID #, title, and your name as the corresponding author), and from there you can follow instructions to apply your points to your reward paper.

What is the process for JDS papers?

For JDS papers, once you have entered your paper details, you’ll then receive a unique discount code that can be applied to your invoice—it will populate on the screen, be added to your loyalty transcript in your member dashboard, and be sent to you via email.

Save your discount code and apply it to your Elsevier invoice via the “discount code” field. Don’t worry if you’ve lost track of your discount code—it will always be available to you via the transcript in your member dashboard.

What is the process for JDSC papers?

For JDSC papers, once you have entered your paper details, you will see a confirmation message that your discount is being applied to your designated manuscript invoice. This invoice will be emailed to you. Once received, you can complete your invoice payment, if any, as normal. If you’d like to double check the discount applied was correct before payment, your discount information will be listed clearly in your invoice and will always be available to you via the transcript in your member dashboard.

How long are the points I accrue valid? Is there an expiration date?

Points are valid from the date an article is accepted or an on-time review is submitted. Members have up to four years to redeem their points.

Do I have to redeem all the points I’ve earned at once?

No. It’s possible to redeem a portion of your points on one article while retaining a “balance” in your account.

Do I have to redeem my points in the same journal I received the points for?

No. Members can earn points writing or reviewing for either JDS or JDSC or both. Points can then be redeemed in either journal.

I’m not the corresponding author. Can I still receive points?

The corresponding author is the only person who can receive points for each submission. Points are granted only to the corresponding author designated in ScholarOne/Manuscript Central during the time of submission.

Will I need to be the corresponding author of the paper I am redeeming my points for?

Yes, the paper must be submitted by the corresponding author who is using the points they have accrued.

CAN ALL AUTHORS RECEIVE POINTS CREDIT FOR THEIR ARTICLE?

No. Only the corresponding author of an article can claim the loyalty points.

Are the points transferrable?

Neither points nor rewards can be transferred to another author or reviewer.

My review was a few weeks late. Will it still count toward my points accrual?

Only on-time reviews will count toward point accruals. A review is considered on-time if it is submitted within 14 days of accepting the invitation to review.

I don’t want to participate in this program. Is there a way to opt out of the program?

Yes. You can opt out via the ScholarOne/Manuscript Central platform when submitting your review or article.

Whom can I contact with a question?

You can contact loyalty@adsa.org with any questions about the program.
