Will I retain the copyright for my JDS or JDSC article?

Yes, authors have a choice of license options and retain the copyright for their published work.

What’s the cost to publish a JDS article?

ADSA members pay a discounted article publishing rate of $1,600 USD. The charge for nonmembers is $3,500 USD, but you may become a professional member of ADSA for $110 and pay the member rate. Learn more about becoming a member here.

Whom do I contact with questions about invoicing or if there’s a problem with invoicing for JDS?

Please reach out to adsa@adsa.org for assistance with the process. Rinky Mathew, of Elsevier, is the point of contact for any author invoice queries.

If my organization is tax-exempt, how should I communicate that during the JDS invoicing process?

You may upload a tax exemption certificate to Elsevier’s system during the invoicing process. Please ensure your file is PDF, JPG, TIF, or BMP and is 8 MB or smaller.

What is the invoicing procedure for JDSC?

When a proof is ready for author review, the corresponding author of the paper receives an email that includes a payment form from the ADSA. Authors can simply follow the instructions on the form and ADSA will charge the appropriate fee.

Are articles in the journal archives open access?

All Journal of Dairy Science and JDS Communications articles are currently free to access for ADSA members and nonmembers.

Can I deposit any article into a repository or at ResearchGate (or the like)?

For articles marked with © ADSA, authors may deposit only a non-typeset, peer-reviewed version of their article into their institutional archive. Deposits into commercial services (e.g., Research Gate) should be limited to article abstracts only. All deposits should include a DOI linking to the final published article.

For articles marked with CC BY NC ND, authors may deposit a non-typeset, peer-reviewed version of the article and include a DOI linking to the final published article.

For articles marked with CC BY, authors may deposit the typeset article.

More information can be found here.

Will the ADSA Operating Fund be used to offset article charges?

Yes, the ADSA Board of Directors will utilize the Operating Fund to provide a discount for ADSA members to publish in JDS and JDSC. For JDS, this member discount reduces the cost to $1,600, which provides a savings of $1,900 per article. For JDSC, members save roughly $500 on the cost. Please note that nonmembers will continue to pay $3,500 per article to publish in JDS and $1,275 to publish in JDSC, but it costs considerably less to become a member and take full advantage of all other ADSA  member benefits.

What is the invoicing procedure for JDS?

After an article is prepared for in-press posting, the corresponding author of a paper will receive an email from Elsevier with a request to complete a payment form. For authors who provide ADSA membership information, Elsevier will confirm that the membership is current, then apply discounts to the invoice. Payment for articles published in JDS will be invoiced and collected by Elsevier.
