Champaign, IL (June 3, 2020)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Christiane Girard as the 2020 recipient of the American Feed Industry Association Award. Girard will be recognized during the virtual ADSA Annual Meeting.

The American Feed Industry Association Award was created to stimulate research in dairy cattle nutrition. The award recognizes an individual who has made a worthy contribution to research of dairy cattle nutrition within the 10 years immediately prior to the year of the award. The winner must have published original research work; conducted research at a public institution, hospital, or similar institution; and been a member of ADSA for at least 5 successive years.

Christiane Girard works as a research scientist at the Sherbrooke Research and Development Centre, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Her work on B vitamins has challenged the generally accepted concept that dietary requirements of dairy cows for B vitamins do not have to be taken into account because their synthesis by the rumen microflora is sufficient to prevent deficiency symptoms. Her work has clearly led the path and truly made an outstanding contribution to improve estimations of supply and requirements of B vitamins. In a perspective of precision farming to optimize metabolic efficiency, meeting dairy cow requirements for B vitamins cannot be overlooked.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the American Feed Industry Association present Christiane Girard with the 2020 American Feed Industry Association Award.
