Champaign, IL (May 9, 2022)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce George Liu as the 2022 recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri.

The J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding was created to recognize outstanding research in animal breeding. The winner must have done research work published in the 10 years immediately preceding the year of recognition, performed research in any area of animal breeding and genetics that had or has the potential for improvement of dairy cattle, and have been a member of ADSA for at least five years. The winner must also be a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico and/or formally involved in projects in collaboration with North American researchers or organizations.

George Liu has been conducting fundamental genomics research to improve the health and production of cattle and small ruminants and methods for the genetic and genomic evaluation of economically important traits. After completing his PhD and postdoctoral training at Case Western Reserve University, he joined the USDA in 2005 as a research biologist. Liu has made contributions to the dairy industry by improving cattle and goat reference genome assemblies and developing tools and resources, including maps for copy number variation, DNA methylation, recombination, and genotype tissue expression or expression quantitative trait loci, to annotate livestock genomes and understand their functions.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding present George Liu with the 2022 J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding.
