The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri.

The DeLaval Dairy Extension Award was created to recognize outstanding achievements in dairy extension. The winner must have made a valuable and noteworthy contribution to the dairy industry through dairy extension in the broad areas of production, manufacturing, marketing, and youth work; be active in dairy extension when nominated and have at least 10 years of dairy extension work with an educational or public institution; and have been a member of ADSA for at least five successive years.

José Eduardo P. Santos received his DVM degree from São Paulo State University in Brazil. He moved to the United States to complete his MS and PhD degrees at the University of Arizona and a clinical residency in dairy production medicine at the University of California, Davis. After eight years in the faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis, Santos moved to the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida, where his research and extension programs seek to develop technologies that enhance efficiency of dairy production, in particular improvements in peripartum health and reproduction.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and DeLaval Inc. present José Eduardo P. Santos with the 2022 DeLaval Dairy Extension Award.
