Champaign, IL (May 9, 2022)—The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®) is pleased to announce that Louis E. Armentano has been named Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association. The award will be presented on Sunday, June 20, 2022, during the opening session at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri.

The purpose of the ADSA Fellow distinction is to recognize Dairy Foods division and Production division members of ADSA who have rendered distinguished service to the dairy industry over 20 years or more. The recipients must have made exceptional contributions to the dairy industry, to a dairy-related discipline, or to ADSA; in addition, the recipients must be and have been a member of ADSA for a minimum of 20 years.

Louis Armentano received his BS from Cornell, MS from North Carolina State, and PhD from Iowa State. After a research appointment at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Armentano joined the Dairy Science Department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In addition to studying ruminant liver metabolism, Armentano’s laboratory examined the use of by-product feedstuffs in providing energy, fiber, protein, and fatty acids to dairy cows. Armentano served as a professor for 33 years, 8 of which he was the departmental chair. In 2016 Armentano retired. He served on the National Research Council dairy nutrition guidelines writing committee and is a former board member and officer of the American Dairy Science Association and FASS.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA presents Louis E. Armentano with the 2022 Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association distinction.
