Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Ursula Abou-Rjeileh as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Midwest Scholar Award. Abou-Rjeileh will be recognized during the awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
The ADSA Midwest Scholar Award recognizes and features the research accomplishments of recent PhD graduates or current PhD students from the ADSA Midwest Branch in the advanced stages of their program (i.e., within 12 months of degree completion) at the ADSA Annual Meeting. The intent of the Young Scholars Program is to recognize the accomplishments of students in many disciplines through an invited presentation format; it is not intended as a competition.
Ursula Abou-Rjeileh is a PhD candidate in the Large Animal Clinical Sciences Department at Michigan State University. Her doctoral research investigates how oleic acid influences adipose tissue metabolism, mitochondrial function, and oxidative stress in dairy cows during periods of metabolic stress. By exploring the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying fatty acid metabolism, her work provides valuable insights into improving cow health and resilience during the transition period. Her research has direct applications to nutritional strategies aimed at optimizing metabolic efficiency and reducing disease risk in dairy herds, ultimately contributing to improved productivity and sustainability in the dairy industry.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Midwest Branch present Ursula Abou-Rjeileh with the 2025 ADSA Midwest Scholar Award.
