Bailey Basiel receives the Alltech Inc. Graduate Student Paper Publication Award

Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Bailey Basiel as the 2025 recipient of the Alltech Inc. Graduate Student Paper Publication Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Alltech Inc. Graduate Student Paper Publication Award recognizes a graduate student, who is also a member of ADSA, who has published a paper in the Journal of Dairy Science® (JDS®). The manuscript must be based on research conducted by the student before his or her final oral examination and must list the student as senior author. The manuscript must be submitted to JDS within six months after completion of the final oral examination and then be accepted to and/or published in JDS during the calendar year preceding the award.

Bailey Basiel grew up in New England, where she was first exposed to dairy science as a 4-H member on a small Jersey farm. She received her BS in animal science in 2018 from the University of New Hampshire. Basiel attended graduate school at The Pennsylvania State University, where she researched applied dairy cattle breeding and genetics. She received her MS in 2020 and her PhD in 2025 under the mentorship of Tara Felix and Chad Dechow. Following her PhD, Basiel worked as a postdoctoral research fellow with the USDA Agricultural Research Service Animal Genomics and Improvement Laboratory. This fall, Basiel will begin as an assistant professor in the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Vermont.
