Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Lance Baumgard as the 2025 recipient of the FASS-AFIA Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
This prestigious award is designed to stimulate, acknowledge, and reward pioneering and innovative research relevant to the nutrition of animals that benefits mankind and the nutritional value of foods from animals.
Lance Baumgard is a distinguished professor and the Norman L. Jacobson Endowed Professor in Dairy Science in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University. He researches milk fat synthesis, metabolism, energetics of the transition and heat-stressed cow, and immunometabolism. Baumgard and his colleagues have recently focused their research efforts on the energetic and mineral requirements of an activated immune system. In particular, he and his group are describing how immune activation alters nutrient trafficking and, ultimately, reduces farm animal productivity.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA, FASS, and the American Feed Industry Association Inc. present Lance Baumgard with the 2025 FASS-AFIA Award.
