Deborah (Hutchins) Jasperson receives the ADSA® Foundation Graduate Student Literature Review Award: Dairy Foods Division (PhD)

Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA) is pleased to announce Deborah (Hutchins) Jasperson as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Foundation Graduate Student Literature Review Award: Dairy Foods Division (PhD). The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The ADSA Foundation Graduate Student Literature Review Award: Dairy Foods Division (PhD) was created to recognize graduate students who have composed in-depth and extensive literature reviews in their thesis or dissertation and allow for these papers to be published in the Journal of Dairy Science® as review papers, making them available as references for citations in original research papers. The winner must be a graduate student (or within 6 months of graduation) at the time of the article submission to the Journal of Dairy Science. The article must be no more than 30 double-spaced pages, including references and graphs, have no more than 75 references, and be focused on a topic in dairy science.

Deb (Hutchins) Jasperson is a PhD candidate in food, nutrition, and packaging sciences at Clemson University with a research focus on food packaging design. She received her BS and MS in food science from Brigham Young University and worked in industry as a research and development whey protein technologist. Her dissertation topic is centered on retail cheese packaging, including structure, graphics, material, product design, consumer behavior, and marketing. She also researches improvements for sustainability in food packaging, particularly consumer-facing on-pack messaging and recyclability. Jasperson is passionate about teaching and is a university instructor. She aims to become a food packaging design consultant and professor.
