Adam Lock receives the Nutrition Professionals Inc. Applied Dairy Nutrition Award

Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Adam Lock as the 2025 recipient of the Nutrition Professionals Inc. Applied Dairy Nutrition Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Nutrition Professionals Inc. Applied Dairy Nutrition Award was created to stimulate and recognize outstanding achievement in research, teaching, extension, or industry in applied dairy nutrition. The winner must have made significant contributions to the dairy industry in the area of applied dairy nutrition in one or more areas, such as applied nutrition research related to improved production efficiency, reproductive function, or herd health; integration of innovative nutritional management practices into profitable management systems; or education (including technology transfer and extension) and application of nutritional information to students, producers, and the public. The winner must have made the contribution within 10 years prior to the year of the award and have been a member of ADSA for at least five consecutive years. They must also be a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico.

Adam Lock, a professor at Michigan State University, was born on a dairy farm in the United Kingdom. He earned degrees from the University of Nottingham and completed a postdoc at Cornell University. Since joining Michigan State in 2009, his research has challenged conventional thinking and led to new opportunities for the feeding of dairy cows. Collaborative efforts with nutritionists and producers have accelerated his research and extension program, enabling him to focus on recent areas of interest such as fatty acid absorption, fat supplementation strategies, transition cow nutrition, and milk fat synthesis. His contributions have been recognized with awards from the American Dairy Science Association and Michigan State University.
