Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Daniela Lourenco as the 2025 recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding was created to recognize outstanding research in animal breeding. The winner must have done research work published in the 10 years immediately preceding the year of recognition, performed research in any area of animal breeding and genetics that had or has the potential for improvement of dairy cattle, and have been a member of ADSA for at least five years. The winner must also be a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico and/or formally involved in projects in collaboration with North American researchers or organizations.

Daniela Lourenco is an associate professor in animal breeding, genetics, and genomics at the University of Georgia. Her research has focused on improving livestock production, health, fitness, and efficiency using genomic information, developing statistical methods and software for genetic evaluation and genome-wide association, and addressing issues related to using big data and multi-omics information. Lourenco’s multispecies genetic research program has secured over $10 million in grant funds from government and private sources since 2015. She is widely acknowledged as a prominent and prolific geneticist globally and has played a significant role in training the next generation of geneticists.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding present Daniela Lourenco with the 2025 J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding.
