Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Madison Myers as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Midwest Scholar Award. Myers will be recognized during the awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
The ADSA Midwest Scholar Award recognizes and features the research accomplishments of recent PhD graduates or current PhD students from the ADSA Midwest Branch in the advanced stages of their program (i.e., within 12 months of degree completion) at the ADSA Annual Meeting. The intent of the Young Scholars Program is to recognize the accomplishments of students in many disciplines through an invited presentation format; it is not intended as a competition.
Madison Myers is a dual DVM-PhD student at Michigan State University, mentored by Andres Contreras in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Her research explores the role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in regulating lipid metabolism and inflammation in dairy cows during the transition period. Using in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models, she demonstrated that ECS components modulate lipolysis and immune responses in adipose tissue. Her findings provide novel insight into lipid mediator signaling in ruminants and lay the groundwork for ECS-targeted strategies to improve metabolic health, productivity, and welfare in transition dairy cows.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Midwest Branch present Madison Myers with the 2025 ADSA Midwest Scholar Award.
