Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Jair Parales-Girón as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Midwest Scholar Award. Parales-Girón will be recognized during the awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
The ADSA Midwest Scholar Award recognizes and features the research accomplishments of recent PhD graduates or current PhD students from the ADSA Midwest Branch in the advanced stages of their program (i.e., within 12 months of degree completion) at the ADSA Annual Meeting. The intent of the Young Scholars Program is to recognize the accomplishments of students in many disciplines through an invited presentation format; it is not intended as a competition.
Coming from Colombia, Jair Parales-Girón joined Adam Lock’s laboratory at Michigan State University, where he made key contributions identifying how fatty acid supplementation can positively impact milk production responses in the immediate postpartum period of dairy cows. He completed a series of studies evaluating the interaction between different fatty acid supplements and other dietary factors, such as chromium supplementation, different levels of dietary starch and metabolizable protein, and oilseed inclusion on dairy cow performance. The results from his research have immediate practical applications in the dairy industry, enabling producers to identify enhanced nutritional strategies for early-lactation dairy cows.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Midwest Branch present Jair Parales-Girón with the 2025 ADSA Midwest Scholar Award.
