Jonas de Souza receives the Lallemand Award for Scientific Excellence in Dairy Nutrition

Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Jonas de Souza as the 2025 recipient of the Lallemand Award for Scientific Excellence in Dairy Nutrition. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Lallemand Award for Scientific Excellence in Dairy Nutrition was created to stimulate and recognize outstanding achievement in research, teaching, extension, or industry in applied dairy nutrition by scientists during the first 10 postgraduation years of their professional career.

Jonas de Souza is the director of research and development and technical services for Perdue Animal Nutrition. Born and raised in Brazil, de Souza completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in animal science in Brazil. He completed his doctorate degree at Michigan State University, focusing on the impact of different combinations of fatty acids on dairy cow performance and metabolism. de Souza’s research underlines the importance of the fatty acid profile of diets in optimizing animal performance and profitability. Currently, his goal is to help nutritionists and farmers apply different nutritional strategies to drive milk component yield and improve return on investment.
