Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Normand St-Pierre as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards program at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
The ADSA Distinguished Service Award was created to recognize unusually outstanding and consistent contributions to the welfare of the dairy industry, either directly or indirectly. The award is based on a broad, even nonscientific, contribution. Thus, outstanding achievements by those in industry, public administration, or academic administration shall qualify. The contribution may be national or international. The ADSA Distinguished Service Award is not for ADSA accomplishments. The winner must have fulfilled as of January 1 of the year of the award the contributions to the welfare of the dairy industry for which they are to be recognized, must be living when nominated, and need not be a member of ADSA.
Normand St-Pierre’s service to the dairy industry has been broad and impactful. His publications on estimating ingredient costs, heat stress economics, and a novel meta-analysis technique have resulted in better decision-making by farmers and consultants. He showed that a change in the USDA Federal Milk Order pricing was not price-neutral for dairy farmers, as claimed, and his work contributed to the creation of a program by the USDA to compensate farmers. He volunteered to serve as interim chief executive officer of FASS and helped bring it back from near bankruptcy. His software on the economics of herd expansion has assisted in making wiser expansion decisions and has helped individual farmers obtain fair treatment in legal cases. These are just a few examples of the wide-ranging service St-Pierre has provided to our industry.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA presents Normand St-Pierre with the 2025 ADSA Distinguished Service Award.
