Drew Matthew Swartz receives the ADSA Midwest Scholar Award

Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Drew M. Swartz as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Midwest Scholar Award. Swartz will be recognized during the awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.

The ADSA Midwest Scholar Award recognizes and features the research accomplishments of recent PhD graduates or current PhD students from the ADSA Midwest Branch in the advanced stages of their program (i.e., within 12 months of degree completion) at the ADSA Annual Meeting. The intent of the Young Scholars Program is to recognize the accomplishments of students in many disciplines through an invited presentation format; it is not intended as a competition.

Drew Swartz is a PhD candidate in veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota with minors in epidemiology and data science. His research focuses on precision lameness detection and hoof lesion classification using machine learning, as well as barriers to technology adoption in dairy systems. With three peer-reviewed publications, multiple conference presentations, and leadership roles, including president of the Council of Graduate Students, Swartz demonstrates both scientific excellence and service. He is committed to improving dairy cow health and producer decision-making through evidence-based tools and collaborative research, with a long-term goal of contributing to academia, extension, and the dairy industry.

It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the ADSA Midwest Branch present Drew M. Swartz with the 2025 ADSA Midwest Scholar Award.
