Champaign, IL (May 12, 2025)—The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®) is pleased to announce William Weiss as the 2025 recipient of the ADSA Award of Honor. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during the awards program at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
The ADSA Award of Honor was created to recognize unusually outstanding and consistent contributions to the welfare of the association or distinguished service to the association. The award is primarily for services to ADSA, with career achievements or contributions to other segments of the dairy industry receiving secondary consideration. The winner must have been a member of ADSA for 25 years or more, be living when nominated, and have served ADSA with unusual distinction.
Bill Weiss has been distinguished in his service for nearly 40 years to the dairy industry—the end users of the knowledge base fostered through the activities of the American Dairy Science Association. Weiss is globally recognized for his applied dairy cattle nutrition research and outreach and engagement programs. His research evaluating trace nutrient effects on cow health, feed energy evaluation, and managing feed composition variation is extensively adopted in feed industries because his knowledge base is routinely sought by stakeholders. His ability to condense complex data and concepts in an easily understood, useful manner is unexcelled. This is validated by his two-time service as a prominent committee member for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee for Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle (seventh and eighth editions). Furthermore, his distinguished service through mentoring graduate students is further evidence of his honorary contributions to the tripartite mission of our land grant universities.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA presents William Weiss with the 2025 ADSA Award of Honor.
