Mark Hanigan named Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association

Champaign, IL (May 8, 2026)—The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA®) is pleased to announce that Mark Hanigan has been named Fellow of the American Dairy Science Association. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The purpose of the ADSA Fellow Award is to recognize Dairy Foods Division and Production Division members of ADSA who have rendered distinguished service to the dairy industry over 20 years or more. The recipients must have made exceptional contributions to the dairy industry, to a dairy-related discipline, or to ADSA; in addition, the recipients must be and have been a member of ADSA for a minimum of 20 years.

Mark Hanigan is the David R. and Margaret Lincicome Professor in the School of Animal Sciences at Virginia Tech University. He has been a member of ADSA since 1987. His dairy industry support includes the development of better methods of evaluating nutrient availability from ingredients, improving our understanding of the regulatory roles of amino acids with respect to milk protein synthesis, research and field application model development, serving on the rewrite committee for the eighth revision of the Nutrient Requirements of Dairy Cattle, serving on the National Animal Nutrition Program Modeling Committee, and serving on the North American Dairy Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge Committee.
