Champaign, IL (May 8, 2026)—The American Dairy Science Association® (ADSA®) is pleased to announce Bjørg Heringstad as the 2026 recipient of the J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding. The award will be presented on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding was created to recognize outstanding research in animal breeding. The winner must have done research work published in the 10 years immediately preceding the year of recognition, performed research in any area of animal breeding and genetics that had or has the potential for improvement of dairy cattle, and have been a member of ADSA for at least five years. The winner must also be a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico and/or formally involved in projects in collaboration with North American researchers or organizations.
Bjørg Heringstad is a professor in animal breeding and genetics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences who also serves as a research scientist in Geno, the breeding organization for Norwegian Red dairy cattle. Her research focuses on the genetic improvement of health and fertility traits in dairy cattle, and on traits related to feed efficiency and methane emissions. She is also involved in developing novel traits for genetic evaluations using data from milking robots and sensor technologies. She has a strong publication track record, extensive international collaboration, and is an active participant at international congresses and scientific meetings.
It is with great pleasure that ADSA and the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding present Bjørg Heringstad with the 2026 J. L. Lush Award in Animal Breeding.
