ADSA Annual Meeting General Questions

Why did ADSA decide to cancel the onsite Annual Meeting?

After thoughtful consideration, ADSA’s Board of Directors decided to cancel the onsite ADSA Annual Meeting and transition the meeting into a virtual experience. The health and safety of ADSA members and stakeholders is our priority and this was felt to be the best and safest course of action in light of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.

What factors were taken into consideration when making this decision?

The health and safety of all involved is what drove the ADSA Board’s decision. To that end, many pandemic factors were considered including:

  • Global travel restrictions due to the virus. Government, corporations, and institutions continue to restrict travel and movement to, from and within the United States. This includes the U.S. Department of State’s unprecedented imposition of a Global Level 4 Health Advisory – Do Not Travel.
  • Shelter in place mandates across the U.S. and globally impacting onsite participation. Within the United States many states are requiring individuals to shelter in place, prohibiting travel and instituting restrictions on gathering, for the foreseeable future. In addition, approximately 20% of Annual Meeting attendees come from countries outside the U.S.
  • Anticipated self-quarantine and social distancing extending into the summer months. Predictive modeling currently available from several sources indicate that policies for social distancing, shelter in place, and other control measures are likely to extend for several more months in order to curb and to ultimately eliminate the coronavirus pandemic.

It is for these and many other reasons that ADSA made this difficult decision.

What do you mean by a virtual event?

ADSA’s Board focused on an alternative solution that will provide an engaging, accessible, and inclusive platform to convene our global community and help us accomplish ADSA’s mission to provide a global forum for professionals, educators, and students from around the world to share their research and interest in dairy science.

ADSA is working quickly to develop an informative and engaging virtual experience, allowing participants to easily access important topics, research, and content that was originally developed for the onsite experience. Specifics regarding the new virtual experience will be shared in the coming weeks.
