Graduate Student Call for Competition Presentations

GENERAL INFORMATION

Listed below are graduate competition submission options for the 2023 ADSA® Annual Meeting.

ADSA Production Division graduate members, ADSA Dairy Foods Division graduate members, and ADSA Southern Branch graduate members will present their papers or posters in sessions during the 2023 ADSA Annual Meeting, if applicable, with judging sessions held virtually within two weeks before the Annual Meeting.

National ADSA Production Division graduate competitors are also eligible for the Southern Branch competition but cannot submit the same abstract for each competition.

Eligible participants must attend the 2023 ADSA Annual Meeting in order to participate in a competition. Competitors must be registered for the 2022 ADSA Annual Meeting by March 23, 2023, or the abstract will not be published and will be removed from the program and will no longer be available for competition or presentation at the meeting.

The quality of an abstract for presentation is a direct reflection of the reputation of the author(s) and the American Dairy Science Association®.

All 2023 competition submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. CST on February 15, 2023.

Please refer to the Abstract Submission Instructions, the ADSA Quality Standards for Abstracts, and the Poster Presentation Guidelines. If you need clarification of, or additional information on, abstract quality or submission, please contact us at abstracts@assochq.org.

Each competitor is required to upload additional information during the abstract submission process. See Ancillary Materials under each competition.

NATIONAL ADSA COMPETITIONS

GENERAL INFORMATION

The ADSA Graduate Student Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation competitions will be held in both the Dairy Foods and Production Divisions of ADSA.

The Dairy Production Division will have both oral and poster contests, with an MS and PhD division in each. Students can compete in only one national competition each year.

A certificate and cash award will be presented to the first-, second-, and third-place winners in each division.

All participants must be members of ADSA. A photograph and a brief résumé, including name, address, telephone number, degrees and date received, professional work experience, areas of research, scholarships and fellowships received, professional activities and memberships, and other special interests, should be sent along with the abstract to the division contest chairperson (see subsequent information). The résumés will be used to write the citations of the winners.

Presentations must represent original research by the contestant. In developing the plan of research and preparing for the presentation, the contestant should have such counsel from the major professor as is normally expected.

Some requirements for abstract submission differ between the 2 divisions. Consult the information below for specific instructions and requirement pertaining to individual competitions in the appropriate division.

PRODUCTION DIVISION ORAL COMPETITIONS (MS and PhD)

An institution is entitled to enter one participant per department in each of the MS and PhD Production Division oral competitions.

Contestants must submit an oral entry for the competition. Competitors are required to present their competition entry in a regular general oral session in order to compete in the graduate oral competition.
