RSVP to Join: Mastitis Control and Milk Quality in Organic Dairy Herds Workshop

Over the past three decades, overall milk quality in US dairy herds, primarily bulk tank somatic cell counts (SCC), has improved by 43%. Despite this progress, mastitis remains one of the most significant challenges to dairy farm profitability, reducing milk yield and increasing treatment and culling costs. Drawing on field data from an ongoing United States Department of Agriculture Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative–funded project (#2022-51300-37880) involving more than 70 organic dairy farms across eight US states, this workshop will highlight practical, proven management practices that improve udder health, reduce SCC, and boost your milk check without relying on antimicrobials. Participants will gain actionable insights into on-farm practices that improve udder health and milk quality and strengthen economic returns in both organic and conventional systems. This workshop, featuring Pablo de Caso Udave (University of Wisconsin–Madison), Carlos A. Nino de Guzman Cerna (University of Florida), and Constanza Hernandez-Gotelli (Colorado State University), aims to highlight the latest research advancements with on-farm innovations to provide actionable insights to support more sustainable and profitable dairy farms. A complimentary dinner will be provided immediately following the program.

Please RSVP here by June 15, 2026, to register for the workshop, which will be limited to 70 attendees.

Date: Monday, June 22, 2026
Time: 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.

8:00 a.m.–9:00 a.m.

#ADSA2026 morning programming is growing! Join us in the Exhibit Hall Theater on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings for a series of high-impact, 30-minute innovation talks. MONDAY A.M. | Adapting Decision-Making in a Changing Dairy Landscape

Adapting Decision-Making in a Changing Dairy Landscape
Presented by VAS
Monday, June 22, 2026 | 8:00 a.m.–8:30 a.m.

Jennifer Stamey, senior product manager, VAS

As dairy operations grow more complex, success depends less on collecting more data and more on making better decisions with the data already available. As the dairy industry evolves, connected systems, repeatable workflows, and learning technologies, including artificial intelligence, are changing how dairies think, act, and improve. In this session, you’ll explore how these shifts turn daily work into insight, supporting clearer priorities and more responsive action. Plus, Stamey will share some practical guidance on how to adapt to a rapidly changing dairy data landscape.

MONDAY AM | Engineered Nutrition: Keeping Pace with Accelerating Genetic Progress

MONDAY AM | Engineered Nutrition: Keeping Pace with Accelerating Genetic Progress
Presented by Balchem
Monday, June 22, 2026 | 8:30 a.m.–9:00 a.m.

Clay Zimmerman, director of technical services, Balchem

Genetic progress in dairy cattle has redefined what’s biologically possible, with today’s high cows capable of producing levels of milk fat and protein unimaginable just a decade ago. As the ceiling for performance continues to rise, nutrition is struggling to keep pace—exposing a growing gap between potential and realized production. Traditional feeding approaches, built for a different cow, are no longer sufficient to fully express modern genetics. This presentation explores how that gap can be closed by designing and delivering nutrients with greater precision and bioavailability to meet the demands of cows for today and tomorrow. Join us as we examine the science, strategy, and practical applications behind unlocking genetic potential through targeted nutrient innovation.

TUESDAY A.M. | From Insight to Impact: Lessons Learned from Big Data

From Insight to Impact: Lessons Learned from Big Data
Presented by Dairy Records Management Systems (DRMS)
Tuesday, June 23, 2026 | 8:00 a.m.–8:30 a.m.

Asha Miles, director, Dairy Records Management Systems

The power of big data lies not in its volume, but in our ability to uncover actionable insights within the noise. In this talk, Miles demonstrates how traditional and novel dairy data can be transformed into meaningful innovation through a series of real-world examples, and highlights the opportunities and challenges of translating data into impactful tools.

TUESDAY A.M. | Methane Energetics: From Science to Stall

Methane Energetics: From Science to Stall
Presented by Elanco Animal Health
Tuesday, June 23, 2026 | 8:30 a.m.–9:00 a.m.

Kelly Mitchell, Elanco Animal Health

Though dairy efficiency has diluted the enteric methane footprint, methane still represents a significant loss of feed energy. This session explores the fundamental energetics of methane production and the redirection of metabolic hydrogen into productive sinks. Mitchell will examine how methane inhibition with Bovaer (3-nitrooxypropanol) influences the rumen, highlighting current opportunities for our industry’s goals of sustainability and efficiency. The session will demonstrate using Elanco’s proprietary platform data to analyze how academic research translates to the stall, bridging the gap between science and application.
